Our mission
Art in the Park is an annual event dedicated to fine art, craftsmanship, and community that creates a unique opportunity and tradition for artists, collectors, and patrons of the arts.
Celebrating artistry since 1984
Art in the Park is an annual event dedicated to fine art, craftsmanship, and community that creates a unique opportunity and tradition for artists, collectors, and patrons of the arts. Artists and artisans showcase a wide variety of works and mediums inside of Tom Varn Park– a natural setting surrounded by beautiful oak trees in Brooksville, Florida. This will be our 39th annual show bringing in a diverse crowd of 6,000 attendees from Hernando County and our neighboring communities for a celebration of artistry in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
Our Goals
Produce a successful show that showcases regional and national artists and their artwork
Provide support to artists with contests, awards, opportunities that provide unique experiences, and a growing network of likeminded artists and supporters
Celebrate diversity by supporting artists in varying cultures as well as by serving our underserved communities, working to reach creative people from all walks of life
Communicate the power and value of art by working with organizations and members throughout our community
Continue to carry out the mission of the Hernando County Fine Arts Council which is to encourage, promote, and support all of the creative arts in Hernando County with positive leadership, community collaboration, and goals that continue to grow with our network
About the Arts Council
The Hernando County Fine Arts Council grew organically from a group of artists in Hernando and surrounding counties when they formed the Tri-County Professional Art League in 1982. Just two years later, the League needed a way to display their work and established the very first Art in the Park, an annual tradition that continues today. It was a logical next step when a forward-thinking Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) created the Hernando County Fine Arts Council in 1987 under the authority of the Florida Statutes.
Now the Arts Council has a working board with 15 active members that serve 4-year terms. We work year-round to put on the largest art show in Hernando County and use the funds raised to offer two grant programs to our community and encourage, promote, and support the arts in Hernando County with resources and programs for all.
